Better Late Than Never - Gall's First Show Cancelled!

Kind of late on the update, but who cares? Gall's first show was cancelled due to Portland's 2014 Snowmagideon Time ( Didja catch that Clash reference? Aww yeah...). Damn shame, it was. Would've been an ideal first show, what with the Saturday night 10:30pm slot at a proper venue, and with the other excellent bands scheduled to play with us. Oh well. Looks like a makeup show will be scheduled at Ash Street Saloon on March 12th with bands-as-yet-unknown. Stay tuned, nobody.

Gall First Show - Saturday February 8th at Ash Street Saloon

Since nobody's paying attention to this part of the internet anyway, I might as well talk about my own band some more. Gall will be making it's live debut at Ash Street Saloon in lovely downtown Portland, Oregon on Saturday February 8th, 2014 with some other excellent local acts, including Solid Gold Balls and Sorta Ultra. 9pm show, $5, 21-and-up. Should be a grand and memorable rock 'n' roll adventure for anyone foolish enough to show up.

Pissed Jeans and Ice Cream

What a magical combination! I've been on a big Pissed Jeans kick lately, pretty much devouring their entire catalog for the better part of the week. Besides their primal rockability, I love the way Matt Korvette addresses mundane, day-to-day subjects in his lyrics. With that in mind, "I've Still Got You Ice Cream" is probably the first/only/best rock video ever about lactose intolerance. Enjoy:

Skeleton Key - Fantastic Spikes Through Balloon

Skeleton Key is a band I never tire of. The thing they do has been enormously influential on me, and their first full-length, Fantastic Spikes Through Balloon, is an album by which I measure all others. Unfortunately, I believe they were dropped by their label after this record and a couple of key members subsequently left the band. Since then they've floated around a bit, picking up new players and making records sporadically, including the excellent Obtainium for Mike Patton's Ipecac label, and the more recent, and more excellenter, Gravity Is The Enemy for Arctic Rodeo.  Recently the band themselves were kind enough to upload the entirety of Fantastic Spikes Through Balloon to their youtube channel in high quality, being that it's been out of print and difficult to obtain(ium?) for some time. I've still got my original CD copy, but its 1's and 0's are getting a bit frayed around the edges, so this is good news. A vinyl reissue would be even gooder news, but until then...

MIS - Sergio EP

MIS are/were a stupendous weirdo post-punk outfit that the men of Jethrine used to play shows with. They were our BFF band, and the few shows we played with them were our best. We came to think of them as something of a good luck charm. I think that they, much like Jethrine, are more-or-less defunct at this point, but they've got a handful of EP's out that are up on bandcamp for listening and downloading. The Sergio EP is their most recent release and it's flat out badass - blips and bloops and staccato guitar stabs, wild-assed beats, and some pretty damned memorable, artfully arranged tunes.

"Oblio" is my favorite track. It haunts me sometimes.

Out of the ashes of Jethrine...Gall

Hey internet. I haven't updated this mufuka in awhile (not that anybody has been paying attention). Allow me to begin by introducing my new band, Gall. Jethrine fizzled out in a blaze of "meh", and 3/4 of the lineup (the most foolhardy 3/4) have reformed with Jeff Walker of Facepilot fame (?) on drums, forming Gall. We've recorded a few tunes for Meat Necklace, which is available for free, or whatever you wanna give us, on our bandcamp page. We also have one of those gottdanged facebook pages, if you're into that. "Soundcloud", you ask? Sure. Of course. Duh. There's more, but we'll hold off on that for now. It'll be like a surprise later. Auf wiedersehen, dudes. We'll talk more later.
